House prices in Scotland have soared in the past year, outperforming the rest of the UK - but Aberdeen has seen one of the lowest increases.

The Times reports market analysis has shown the average house price in Scotland rose by £13,000 over the last year, while those in England and Wales increased by just £8,500.

There were significant variations in the increase level in different parts of Scotland, with houses on the Shetland Islands rocketing by a staggering £46,118, or 26.23%.

Meanwhile those in Aberdeen rose by just 1.65% from £135,249 to £137,487.

House prices in Aberdeenshire went up by a more promising 4.22%, from £193,991 to £202,186.

Across Scotland as a whole, the average house price climbed to £199,971 for the year to August 2024, and industry experts indicated it would soon top £200,000 for the first time.

Argyll and Bute was the only area in the country where the average price fell - by £1,747.
