Aberdeen-based video production company, Signal, has strengthened its relationship with Houston-based global offshore drilling company Noble, with the delivery of a series of new employee training videos.
Over the last three years Signal has produced multiple projects for Noble, building a flourishing relationship; work has included several major projects in direct collaboration with Noble’s communications team in Houston. This work has included several internal communications projects, including a new Hero brand film, a series of dynamic recruitment films, updating their HSE training tools, and launching their new company values, for which Signal were tasked with bringing the values to life in a series of six films, targeting Noble’s global workforce.
Signal already had a strong relationship with Noble following the completion of a series of comprehensive technical films to promote their Globetrotter drillships, as well as producing a documentary series for Wärtsilä, who have been replacing thrusters in Noble’s fleet around the world.
The most recent project, called Peak, involved close collaboration with Noble’s local creative agency Deutser. This project required a series of 15 training films, designed to support safe and consistent operations across Noble’s fleet, specifically shaped for real offshore work. Each film explains and models a different training technique and provides practical guidance that teams can apply in operational environments, ranging from the rig floor and workshops to day-to-day planning and supervision.
To ensure the content feels grounded and authentic, Signal blended interview soundbites with real operational moments drawn from an extensive global library of Noble footage gathered from filming across rigs worldwide. This footage is further elevated by bespoke 2D animation crafted to simplify complex ideas and create a consistent identity across the entire series.
The Peak series was preceded by a standalone film, ‘Building Capacity Before Failure’, that uses a combination of live action and photo-real 3D animation. The film explores how weak signals, small process gaps, and everyday workarounds can accumulate and erode safety over time. The film helps crews recognise these early signs and empowers teams to take corrective action long before reaching a critical point. This film was also translated into multiple foreign languages.
A useful side product of this work was that Signal have updated and expanded Noble’s library of video footage, including hard-to-get offshore content. Signal’s film crews are qualified to work offshore anywhere in the world and experienced working in the most challenging environments.
Schuyler Dugle, Noble Senior Communications Specialist, said: “The Signal team is professional and highly competent, whether on an offshore rig, in a brainstorm meeting, or in the edit suite. We have worked together on a variety of projects, and I would recommend them to anyone needing to execute offshore or onshore. I look forward to working with them again.”
Signal’s Creative Director, Mark Turner said: “Our partnership with Noble has matured; we have developed a close relationship with their teams, and a deep understanding of their business. And we know their footage back to front, which speeds up the production process. We are grateful to Noble for continuing to trust us with these important projects.”
Signal is Aberdeen’s leading video production company; based in Scotland with the ability to film onshore and offshore, anywhere in the world. This project continues its long-standing partnership with the global energy and engineering sectors, producing award-winning films that combine technical accuracy with impact.
