Scotland’s top barbershop has added tennis royalty to its growing client roster, serving up a tidy new trim for Sir Andy Murray.

Sovereign Grooming was called-up to style the stars at the Battle of the Brits yesterday, as Scotland and England prepared to go head-to-head at Aberdeen’s P&J Live Arena.

Sovereign co-founder Kyle Ross led a team of five from the salon after being approached by doubles superstar Jamie Murray.

The Murray brothers were joined in the chair by Neal Skupski, Jonny O'Mara and Joe Salisbury before taking to the court for yesterday’s opening ceremony.

The celebrity session rounds off a breakthrough year for Sovereign Grooming, which in September was named ‘Scotland’s Best Barbershop’ at the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards.

Kyle, who was also named Britain’s Best Barber in 2017, counts a growing number of famous faces among his clients, including Scottish football internationals Scott McKenna, Lawrence Shankland and Gary Mackay-Steven.

He said: "It is a really proud moment for Sovereign Grooming to be asked by Jamie to provide our services to these tennis gods.

“All of the guys were fantastic and it was a huge honour to be in and around the arena as the tournament got underway.”

Jamie Murray is the tournament director of Battle of the Brits, which is a live Scotland versus England tennis match featuring some of the biggest names in the sport.

He said: “Looking good and feeling good go hand in hand as it helps you be more confident – and in my case, hopefully play better.”

Kyle launched his first salon in the West End of Aberdeen's Union Street in 2016 to provide a high-quality grooming service for men.

Today, Sovereign has major city centre salons in New Waverley, Edinburgh, and Renfield Street in Glasgow. It also operates two unique barber academies in Edinburgh and Glasgow, where students can become fully-qualified barbers in just 15 weeks.

Marketing expert and former journalist Ryan Crighton became a shareholder and director in the business in 2018.

MB Martin & Partners Ltd Chief Executive, Moray Martin, later joined Sovereign’s board as chairman following the investment deal to support the business founders through its growth phase.

Together, they are seeking to establish Sovereign as a major player in the male grooming industry across the UK.
