SSEN Transmission has joined forces with Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust (AFCCT) to deliver Pittodrie Pathways at Fraserburgh Academy - a programme designed to equip young people with essential skills, qualifications, and confidence for their future careers.
This exciting programme is being introduced to a group of 16 students at Fraserburgh Academy and is designed for young people aged 15 -18. The initiative offers an employability-focused course integrated into the school timetable, providing the opportunity to achieve an SCQF Level 4 qualification and enhancing future prospects for students.
The programme is delivered by AFCCT staff, bringing expertise and real-world experience into the classroom. Pupils will learn about the variety of careers that are available, with support and guidance offered to enhance skills which will help them learn, adapt, and thrive in the workplace, as well as practical guidance such as CV writing to interview techniques which will help support employability options.
Fraserburgh Academy was selected as part of SSEN Transmission’s commitment to supporting communities in the north-east, ensuring young people have access to opportunities linked to Scotland’s clean energy future.
By supporting Pittodrie Pathways, SSEN Transmission is helping equip young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in education and employment, while strengthening ties between industry and education.
Nicky Gadsden, Early Careers Manager at SSEN Transmission, said: "We’re delighted to work with AFCCT on this initiative with Fraserburgh Academy. Supporting young people to develop employability skills and gain qualifications is vital for building strong communities and a skilled workforce for the future.
“At SSEN Transmission, we recognise that the energy sector is undergoing a rapid transformation as Scotland moves towards a net zero future. This transition will create thousands of new jobs, and we want to ensure that local young people here in the north east have the confidence, knowledge, and qualifications to seize those opportunities.
“Partnerships like Pittodrie Pathways allow us to connect directly with schools and communities, helping pupils understand the wide range of careers available, not just in engineering, but across project management, environmental planning, and digital technologies. By investing in initiatives like this, we’re investing in the next generation who will power Scotland’s clean energy future."
Duncan Peter, Business Development and Partnership Manager for Aberdeen FC Community Trust said: “The support for our Pittodrie Pathways pilot in Fraserburgh from SSEN Transmission is hugely appreciated and will allow us to provide practical support to the young people over the course of the next school year.
“Their investment in the young people, and the community, is a significant one and may well provide the future workforce of the energy sector!”
SSEN Transmission is committed to supporting the next generation of the energy workforce, and recently announced a commitment to recruiting 600 ‘earn as you learn roles’ by 2030.
The company is also a proud platinum member of The 5% Club, a national movement committed to ensuring that at least 5% of its workforce is in ‘earn and learn’ roles annually. This pledge underscores SSEN Transmission dedication to nurturing talent through structured development programmes.
To further support its early careers strategy, SSEN Transmission has partnered with initiatives such as Powering Futures and EDT’s Industrial Cadets programme, all of which aim to inspire and equip young people with the skills and confidence to pursue careers in green energy.
