On December 13, St Margaret’s School for Girls senior and chamber choirs, and instrumentalists performed at the Maggie’s Christmas Carol Concert at Midstocket Parish Church alongside Granite City Chorus. The choirs and instrumentalists performed festive songs in order to raise funds for the Aberdeen centre.
St Margaret’s has a long-standing relationship with many local charities and pupils always strive to be active members of the Aberdeen community. With events such as the carol concert, pupils are able to bring St Margaret’s core values of community, equality, ambition, hard work, and respect to their lives outside of the school.
Ryan Wilson, Centre Fundraiser at Maggie’s Aberdeen, had this to say on the concert:
“It was fantastic to see the return of our Christmas Carol Concert at Midstocket Church after a three-year absence, and we can’t thank St Margaret’s and Granite City Chorus enough for their wonderful performances. With their help, we managed to raise £2,100 to support people living with cancer, and their family and friends this winter.
Our fundraising events are crucial in allowing the team here in Aberdeen to be there for anyone who needs us, and it was heart-warming to see so many people brave the cold to come along and show their support for Maggie’s.”
The audience enjoyed performances of songs like ‘White Christmas’, ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’, and ‘Joy to the World’. Anne, a parent of two St Margaret’s pupils, said that she was “incredibly moved” by the performances, and that she “loved seeing everyone come together in such a beautiful setting.”
Maggie’s has 24 centres across the United Kingdom that provide free practical and psychological support to people living with cancer, and their family and friends. Based on the grounds of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the Aberdeen centre opened in 2013 and is gearing up to celebrate its tenth birthday in 2023.
