As Christmas approaches, nightlife venues in Aberdeen are hosting themed nights and extending opening hours for customers to enjoy the festivities. Together; Stagecoach Bluebird, Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council are delighted to address the increased urgency for transport options in the city centre.
More than 200 passengers boarded the night bus services offered on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 December, resulting in a positive relaunch. We expect to see a higher number in the weekends to come and hope that locals utilise the available services to ensure their safe journey home.
Thanks to the funding of Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, passengers do not have a fare to pay, which increases the appeal to the buses. We hope the night buses will continue to help support Aberdeen night life as we move out of a post-CV19 economy.
Innes Walker, City Centre Manager at Aberdeen Inspired said:
"Aberdeen Inspired is delighted to support the return of Stagecoach's night bus service, and even happier to announce that it is free to the public which is crucial as we are going through a cost-of-living crisis.
“We’re aware that residents across the city have found getting home after a night out a challenge, so we are proud to be able to support the night-time economy by providing service which ensures citizens get home safely.
"The night-time economy is critical to Aberdeen and particularly during the festive period, when more people will be out enjoying the city's fantastic retail, hospitality and late-night offerings.
"We hope that the introduction of this transport option will encourage more people to come into the city centre and continue to support businesses."
Daniel Laird, Commercial Director at Stagecoach Bluebird said:
“Stagecoach Bluebird are happy to see the first weekend result of the reintroduced night buses, which haven’t run since before Covid. It’s a great opportunity to help the public get home safely after a night out in Aberdeen city centre and with thanks to Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, passengers will ride the bus for free.
The timetables reflect Aberdeen’s popular routes to allow access for majority of pubgoers, which will result in a reduction of the taxi rank queues. We are delighted to address the need for night buses and help restore Aberdeen’s bustling nightlife.”
Stefan Scott, Assistant Manager at Revolution De Cuba said:
“The Aberdeen hospitality industry is grateful to have options of late-night transport for our customers to get home safely and for free, following the lack of taxis available at night. We expect Christmas to be one of the busiest times of the year due to the influx of Christmas parties and overall hectic nature of the festive season, which is why we’re happy to see the return of night buses during December.”
