Students from Robert Gordon University are organising a host of spring fundraising events to raise awareness and funds for four Aberdeen based charities.

The charities include Befriend a Child, Children’s Hospices across Scotland (CHAS), Dates-n-Mates Aberdeen and Inspire and are being led by fourth year Event Management students.

This is the first opportunity many have had to run large scale fundraising events since the start of CV19 and the events planned include; ‘A Mad Hatter Tea Party’ for Befriend a Child, a ceilidh, ‘Dashing Dance in the Deen’ for CHAS, The Cost is Correct (a spin on The Price is Right gameshow) for Dates-n-Mates Aberdeen, and a Food and Drink Fest for Inspire.

Course Leader from The School of Creative and Cultural Business, Rachel Ironside said: “We hope to raise awareness and much needed funds for these local charities, while also providing the students with the opportunity to run a large-scale fundraising event.

“In running the events, we hope the students from Robert Gordon University will have a positive impact on the local community across the city as they work with various venues, local stakeholders and charities.

“Robert Gordon University is committed to engaging with local community groups and to fostering relations with the communities around us. These events are one way of building up relations and to making a difference to the lives of people beyond the University.”

Fourth year Student, Brogan Murray, from Aberdeen said: As a group we have truly enjoyed the Live Client module as it has given us the skills and opportunities to organise in person events again, bring back a sense of normality and ultimately gives us one final and lasting experience, that we can take away with us in our futures.

Charity, Befriend a Child said, “We are delighted to be supported by the live client module again this year and we can’t wait to see the students event idea come to life next week. The funds and awareness raised at the event will positively impact the lives of the local children we support and will ultimately enable us to help even more children in need of a befriender or mentor in Aberdeen City and Shire.”
