Hundreds have attended a giant Burns Supper in Aberdeen, creating what is believed to be one of the largest events of its kind in the North-east.
The inaugural Granite Burns Supper kicked off the tenth anniversary celebrations of city company Granite PR and was managed by Business Plus Scotland. The focus of the evening was to raise money for Flying Start, the global charity partnership between British Airways and Comic Relief. Thanks to a raffle and auction on the night, in excess of £6000 was raised.
As well as networking opportunities and the traditional tributes to Robert Burns, the evening also featured music from Bridge the Gap and The Davidson Brothers, plus dancing from Banchory’s Coutts School of Highland Dancing.
And such was the success of the DoubleTree by Hilton Aberdeen Treetops event, that plans are already afoot to repeat the venture on Friday, January 25th 2019 when it is hoped that a world-record attempt for the largest Burns Supper may be possible.
Commenting on the success of the evening, Granite PR Founder/Managing Director and event creator Brett Jackson said: “This inaugural event has achieved all of its primary aims which were to provide a forum for cultural, social and business networking; celebrate our national bard; and raise money for a good cause all at the same time.
“The support which this event has generated from sponsors, supporters and participants has been both humbling and inspiring and we hope that they will continue with us on our journey towards something even bigger and better next year!”
