Two-time Tour de France stage winner Dylan Teuns will target the overall victory when he returns to the AJ Bell Tour of Britain with his new Israel – Premier Tech team next month.

Teuns is the first rider confirmed to be on the start line of the 18th edition of the UK’s most prestigious cycle race when it begins in historic Aberdeen on Sunday, September 4.

The 30-year-old Belgian won his first Tour de France stage three years ago atop the famed La Planche des Belles Filles mountain before soloing to win a stage in the Alps two years later.

He has also triumphed in Flèche – Wallonne (2022), one of the hardest one-day events on the calendar, as well as claiming overall honours at the Tours of Poland, Wallonie and Arctic Race of Norway (all in 2017). Teuns finished 10th at the AJ Bell Tour of Britain in 2014 and has recorded six top-10 stage finishes in is two participations to date.

Teuns joined Israel – Premier Tech in a mid-season transfer off the back of finishing 19th in this year’s Tour de France. He made his debut for his new team in the Egmont Cycling Race in Zottegem, Belgium on Wednesday (August 23).

“I’m really happy to finally be getting back to racing and lining up for the first time with Israel – Premier Tech,” he said. “Of course, it’s always different racing in a new team environment. But I know a lot of the guys well, I had a few weeks to get used to new equipment and I’m loving the Factor bike.”

Rik Verbrugghe, Israel – Premier Tech sports director, said: “The races in Belgium this week will be the first races in quite a busy program for Dylan in the second half of the season. After racing on home soil this week, Dylan will go to the Tour of Britain, where he will target the general classification.”

The 2022 race starts in Aberdeen on Sunday, September 4 and culminates with what promises to be a spectacular finale on the Isle of Wight eight stages later on Sunday, September 11. Along the way riders will tackle stages in the Scottish Borders, North East England, North Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset.

ITV4 will continue to broadcast live flag-to-flag coverage of every stage and nightly highlights show, allowing fans in the UK to watch wherever they are. The race will also be shown in over 150 countries worldwide, thanks to the event's partnerships with Eurosport and the Global Cycling Network.

While spectators can watch all the action by the roadside for free, race day hospitality packages offering guaranteed prime views of stage starts and finishes, as well as unforgettable experiences featuring Tour de France stage winner Dan Martin are now available. According to research by Frontline, last year’s race drew a roadside crowd of over one million spectators resulting in the Tour of Britain generating £29.96million of net economic benefit for the UK economy.
