Aberdeen & Northern Marts is pleased to announce the final entries and judges set to take part in its annual multi-breed pedigree ram sale, held on Tuesday, September 25, at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.
The renowned event – sponsored by Harbro – will see 725 entries comprising of 266 Suffolk, 277 Texel, 22 Blue-face Leicester, 17 Border Leicester, 44 Charolais, 25 Beltex, 74 other breeds, including Rouge, Vendeen Blue Texel, Millenium Blue, Blue Du Maine and cross bred.
The line-up of judges will feature Brian Anderson, Shetland for the Texel section, Jonnie Campbell, Thurso for Suffolks, Neil Eddie, Montrose for Beltex, Alan Bradley, Huntly for Blue-faced Leicester, Michael Shearer, Thurso for Border Leicester, and Ryan Shand, Huntly for Charollais.
Colin Slessor, deputy head of livestock, said: “We have a strong entry of quality rams forward from the North and North East of Scotland for our upcoming Thainstone pedigree ram sale.
“The sale presents commercial flock masters with a unique and ideal opportunity to purchase the best rams available for their businesses, and there is always a select number of entries suitable for pedigree breeding.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to what promises to be a strong show and sale.”
The schedule of events will begin at 8.00am with the judging of Suffolk rams, followed by Blue-faced Leicester at 8.30am, Border Leicester at 9.00am, Charollais at 9.30am, Texel at 10.00am, and all other breeds at 11.00am. The sale will commence at 9.30am in ring two beginning with Suffolks rams.
Last year’s champion Texel, by the 60,000gns Strathbogie Yes Sir out of a ewe by Strathbogie Untouchable, came from Robbie Wilson, Milnbank flock at North Dorlaithers, Turriff, and sold to Mrs Elma Alexander, Auchenbreddie, Insch, for 1,600gns.
At the 2017 sale, the top price of 2,200gns was achieved by a Border Leicester from Jimmy Douglas, Fraserburgh, with average prices for all breeds up on the previous show and sale held in 2016.
