One of Scotland’s top singer-songwriters, Kris Drever, is bound for Braemar on Saturday, July 6.

The self-taught Orcadian troubadour has enjoyed a fruitful solo career, exploring the racks between classic and modern songwriting and the traditional music he has been immersed in since a young age.

Drever has been a prolific winner at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards over the years and also boasts a fistful of accolades from the BBC Scotland Trad Music Awards — including best album, best singer, best live act and best original song.

He has toured with one of the most innovative folk groups Lau, and collaborated with some of the biggest names in the roots and wider music scene including Jack Bruce, Eddi Reader, Mark Knopfler, Jerry Douglas, Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis and Roddy Woomble.

The 6th July date will mark his first performance at flourishing Deeside arts centre St Margaret’s Braemar.

Looking forward to the date, Kris Drever said: “It’s a real honour to be able to come to Braemar and play my songs for the folk there.

“I’m genuinely excited to hear the acoustics in St Margaret’s — see you soon.”

St Margaret’s Venue Manager Lyndsey Boden said: “Tickets are selling fast for our July date with Kris Drever in Braemar.

“Kris has been one of Scotland’s most in-demand performers for well over a decade.

“He writes straight-up brilliant songs and delivers these interwoven with mesmerising melodies, traditional notes and a contemporary style.

“His concerts are a joy — and the setting of St Margaret’s will give our audience the chance to hear his music in a close-up and truly magical setting.”
