Applications are now open for the 2026 Trades Awards, with construction businesses and professionals from across the North of Scotland invited to showcase their work and be recognised for their achievements.

Organised by Aberdeen-based marketing and communications agency Mearns & Gill, the Trades Awards return for their fourteenth year, continuing to celebrate the individuals, teams and businesses shaping the region’s built environment. Following the success of last year’s event, W M Donald has returned as Main Sponsor for a second year.

Open to businesses of all sizes, from sole traders to large organisations, the awards recognise excellence across a wide range of disciplines. With categories spanning apprentices, tradespeople, consultancies, projects and businesses, the Trades Awards aim to reflect the full breadth of talent within the industry.

The awards are judged by an independent panel of 15 experts, ranging from construction directors to HR directors, all bringing a specific skill set to the process, and ensuring the decision making is completely independent.

This year introduces several new categories in an effort to represent the sector, including Construction Supplier of the Year, Inspiring Women in Construction, and a refreshed Outstanding Construction Business category.

Applications are now open, with a deadline of 19th June 2026, and finalists will be announced on 30th July, and invited to interviews on 27th and 28th August, giving judges the opportunity to meet entrants and explore their work in more detail.

The winners will be revealed at a black-tie ceremony on Friday 30 October 2026, with over 350 guests expected to attend what has become one of the most anticipated events in the North of Scotland construction calendar.

This year’s event will also raise funds for the Russell Anderson Foundation, supporting young people across the region through education, mentoring, and opportunities.

Elaine Donald, Director at W M Donald, said: “We are delighted to return as Main Sponsor for the Trades Awards. These awards shine a spotlight on the people behind the projects, the individuals and teams whose skill, commitment and hard work drive the industry forward every day. We would encourage businesses of all sizes to get involved, share their stories, and be part of something that continues to celebrate the very best of construction in the North of Scotland.”

Mike Wilson, Managing Director at Mearns & Gill, added: “The Trades Awards have always been about recognising the people who make this industry what it is. Every year, we’re inspired by the quality of applications and the stories behind them, from apprentices starting out, to experienced professionals leading major projects. It’s the people who take part that make this event so special, and we’d encourage anyone who is proud of their work to put themselves forward.”

With a strong focus on integrity and fairness, the awards are judged by an experienced panel of industry professionals, with finalists invited to present directly to judges as part of the process.

Applications are now open, and the organisers are encouraging entries from across the region.
