Trinity Centre teams up with Dinky Doctors
The Trinity Centre officially launched their summer event with a special first aid themed flash mob with help from Wildcat cardiac responders followed by other activities including first aid demonstrations, a special Dinky Doctor CPR challenge, face-painting, a glitter braid bar with Kidsize and a special visit from Claire Stevenson and the team from Original 106 as well as DJ Alex Lovie.
The Trinity Centre, Dinky Doctors and Peter Vardy – Vauxhall Aberdeen have teamed up together this summer to teach children first aid between the ages of 3 – 12, these are essential lifesaving skills that are taught in a fun and interactive way.
The centre will run 12 sessions over the holidays teaching first aid to 240 children, instead of charging for the sessions the centre will covering the costs, Dinky Doctors will be donating 100% of the money to be split between two local charities, Me Too! And VSA. This will make the event free for anyone wishing to attend.
Linda Stewart, general manager commented “We are really excited to be bringing this event to The Trinity Centre this summer. We wanted to create a series of fun activities for the kids during the holidays but also wanted to give them a fantastic skill which could help save someone’s life.”
Cheryl Jones, owner of Dinky Doctors added, "Dinky Doctors were delighted when the Trinity Centre got in touch and offered to host a shop space over the summer to run our first aid training show for children aged 3-12 years.
"From as young as 3 years we teach the essential basics of checking for breathing, rolling the person on their side and dialling 999. Children in the 5-8 year group learn CPR and how to use a public access defibrillator.
"Our shows are fun interactive with characters which we believe makes learning a life skill easier, more memorable and engaging. We are also extremely grateful for the support from Peter Vardy and with the Trinity Centre we can’t wait to train up hundreds of Dinky Doctors this summer.”
In Norway the survival rate for a person suffering cardiac arrest outwith a hospital is 25%, the UK is only 10% and in the Grampian region, the survival rate is 5%. The most notable difference between the Countries is that first aid training is mandatory in school.
The first aid sessions will run by the following schedule within the Trinity Centre and will be available to book from Monday, June 17 via Eventbrite (dates for the sessions will be released one week at a time) – the link will be available on our website at www.trinityaberdeen.co.uk
These sessions will be operated on a first come first serve basis.
