The US Supreme Court is set to decide the fate of Donald Trump's sweeping global tariffs in a landmark case on Wednesday.
The Trump administration will face off against small businesses and a group of states who argue the tariffs are illegal and should be removed.
The court will consider if the president can use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose widespread blanket tariffs on imports from other countries.
If not, Trump's strategy would be upended and the government would likely have to refund billions of dollars it has collected through the tariffs.
On Sunday, the president said he will not attend the hearing in person as he did not want to cause a distraction.
“I will not be going to the Court on Wednesday in that I do not want to distract from the importance of this Decision,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“It will be, in my opinion, one of the most important and consequential Decisions ever made by the United States Supreme Court.
"If we win, we will be the Richest, Most Secure Country anywhere in the World, BY FAR. If we lose, our Country could be reduced to almost Third World status — Pray to God that that doesn’t happen!”
