Scottish television personality, Lorraine Kelly CBE has been appointed patron of Scottish children’s charity The Archie Foundation.

Lorraine is a keen charity supporter with a particular affinity for children’s causes and said it was a ‘perfect fit’ to join Archie as a patron.

Lorraine said: “I was truly honoured to have been asked to be a patron of The Archie Foundation, Archie does an incredible job of supporting babies, children and their families, they go the extra mile for every family that walks through any north of Scotland hospital. I am also in awe of the wonderful personalised support that the charity provides for bereaved children and their families. Experiencing the loss of a loved one is hard for anyone to comprehend, but going through that as a child must be so hard.”

The ‘Lorraine’ show host has had a long-standing career in TV, stretching over 32 years, helping to launch GMTV in the 2000’s and in 2011 she presented the ITV series “Children's Hospital”. In June 2020, Lorraine received a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to broadcasting, journalism and charity.

Carol Munro, Chair of The Archie Foundation said: “We are so delighted to have Lorraine joining us as a Patron, she is a fabulous fit for the charity and with her incredibly uplifting personality she will bring so much to The Archie Foundation. With Lorraine regarding Dundee as her home we hope that her connection with the charity will help us to provide further support for children and families in Dundee City and the wider Tayside region.”

The Archie Foundation is the official charity of Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and Aberdeen Neonatal Unit, Tayside Children’s Hospital and Highland Children’s Unit, and provides vital services and support to sick babies and children, as well as supporting bereaved families throughout the north of Scotland, through Archie’s Child Bereavement Service.

Lorraine has often described herself as an 'adopted Dundonian' and despite moving away, she considers Dundee to be a place that she will always call home.

Lorraine said: “I am really excited to get involved with projects in Tayside and throughout the region, and use my platform to support the charity as much as I can.”
