New data has revealed that the UK has shed a further 82,000 jobs in the three months to August.

The figures, from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), come after a 113,000 drop in jobs in the previous quarter.

It's the third consecutive three-month period in which employment has fallen, making it the worst stretch since early 2021.

The unemployment rate is also the highest it's been in two years, standing at 4.2%.

The ONS used new experimental data this morning, after already delaying the employment and unemployment numbers from last week.

The UK's top share index, the FTSE 100, was down three-points at 7,371, shortly after opening this morning.

Brent crude futures were up 0.58% this morning at $90.35 a barrel.
