AM Sci Tech has secured a further letting at the Aberdeen Energy Park in Bridge of Don.
University spin-out Hychor Ltd is taking the next step in its journey with the opening of new R&D facilities at the Energy Development Centre. This move marks a major transition from academic-based research to product development.
Hychor Ltd has agreed a five-year lease on Unit 9 at the EDC. The 1,491 sq ft unit spans two floors and provides a combination of workshop and office accommodation.
Hychor was founded in 2024 by University of Aberdeen graduate Dr Jani Shibuya, who serves as CEO. He is joined by co-founder and COO Alex Colledge, along with a growing team that now includes three additional staff members.
The company develops advanced electrochemical systems designed to produce green hydrogen directly from seawater. The technology enables hydrogen generation at coastal and remote locations without the need for freshwater supply or extensive centralised infrastructure.
It aims to deliver low-cost, on-site hydrogen production for off-grid coastal communities and industrial users seeking to decarbonise operations. Its approach is designed to reduce both cost and infrastructure barriers that currently limit wider hydrogen adoption. Firmly embedded within Scotland’s growing energy‑transition ecosystem, the company is planning to commence industrial pilot projects in 2027 and preparing to pursue global opportunities.
Dr Jani Shibuya, commented, “We have big plans for the future and delighted to be moving to the Energy Park for our next phase of growth. Our long‑term ambition is to be globally impactful in the hydrogen and renewable energy production sector, helping address two of the planet’s most pressing challenges - energy security and water scarcity.”
Gordon Pirie, Fund Manager at Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks, added, “Welcoming a university spin-out like Hychor to Aberdeen Energy Park is exactly the kind of growth journey we are proud to support. Their move into the Energy Development Centre reflects their rapid progression from research-led innovation to commercial scale-up.
“Our parks are designed to provide the flexibility, infrastructure and collaborative environment that ambitious, high-growth companies need at every stage of development. Within our thriving business community, spin-outs and scale-ups alike benefit from being surrounded by established energy and technology businesses.”
Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks offer a range of flexible office solutions, including leased and serviced offices, designed to accommodate occupiers of all sizes. The Parks are located approximately three miles north of Aberdeen city centre and benefit from excellent transport links, including close proximity to the Third Don Crossing.
The EDC is located in the heart of the Energy Park on Claymore Drive, close to Grub Café. It provides a range of contemporary workshop/office spaces, with electric roller shutter doors. Other facilities include car parking, secure cycle lockers and showers, all within a mature landscaped environment.
