Warning of additional disruption to EU trade

There could be further disruption to trade with the EU this year if more is not done to improve post-Brexit border arrangements, MPs have warned.

The cross-party Public Accounts Committee said the main impact of Brexit on UK firms had been "increased costs, paperwork and border delays".

But it said things could worsen this year as new import controls come in, according to the BBC.

The UK Government has said it continued to ensure businesses "got the support they need to trade effectively with Europe".

It comes as Jacob Rees-Mogg has been appointed minister for Brexit opportunities as part of a Cabinet reshuffle.

The prominent "leave" campaigner will look at which EU rules may be scrapped now the UK has left the bloc.

Renting city-centre homes getting more expensive

The cost of renting a city-centre home is rising as office workers, students and international residents return, according to Zoopla.

The property portal said greater competition meant that renters taking on a new let were paying £62 more a month than they did pre-pandemic.

This higher demand is set to ease in the coming months, in part owing to the rising cost of living facing renters, according to the BBC.

Rightmove also said that business owners inquiring about leasing office space surpassed pre-pandemic levels in January.

Baby on the way for Scottish Finance Secretary

Finance secretary Kate Forbes said she is "absolutely delighted" to be expecting her first child.

The Scottish Government minister, who married Ali MacLennan in July last year, said that "all being well" the couple were looking forward to a new addition to their family this summer.

Ms Forbes said she would be taking maternity leave from her role - and that she hoped she could show it is possible to combine a career in politics with a family.

The Scotsman says the announcement comes ahead of Thursday's debate on the Scottish Budget for 2022-23, with Ms Forbes accepting she has a "very busy" few months ahead.

Surprise move as Primark and Greggs launch clothing range

Sausage rolls and fashion may not seem like natural bedfellows, but that is set to change.

Retailer Primark has announced it will launch an exclusive clothing range with the bakery chain Greggs, sparking a mixed response on social media.

A limited-edition, 11-piece clothing collection will be available in 60 Primark stores later this month.

Greggs will also open a 130-seater cafe in Primark's flagship Birmingham store.

More details of what will be included in the clothing range will be shared nearer the launch date, but photos of a hoodie featuring the Greggs logo and the message "It's a pastry thing" written along one arm have been published.
