Here are the business stories making the headlines across Scotland and the UK this morning.

Highland spaceport company to be liquidated

A company set up to run a planned satellite launch facility in the North-west Highlands is to be liquidated and its assets sold off.

Sutherland Spaceport Ltd (SSL) is a subsidiary of Forres-based rockets manufacturer Orbex, which was placed into administration earlier this year.

SSL was to operate a spaceport near the village of Tongue. It had planning permission, but no major construction work has taken place. Joint administrators said it had started a process to wind up the business.

Developers say hydro power 'being missed' because of wind focus

Developers of small scale hydro-energy projects say Scotland is missing out on investment because of a focus on wind and solar power.

Foster Turner Hydro has halted construction of a scheme in the Highlands because it sees no way of securing a contract to provide its electricity to the grid.

It wants funding for small scale hydro projects to be ring-fenced in government auction rounds - in the same way as wave and tidal power - to make them financially viable.

Microsoft testing wearable AI gadget aimed at office workers

Microsoft is developing new wearable technology with an artificial intelligence (AI) enabled gadget.

During its yearly conference for technology developers, Microsoft executive Steven Bathiche showed off two "concepts" that the company has developed for hardware products intended for people who often use AI tools in their work.

One device was a small portable cube with a touch and voice-activated screen, meant for a desk. The other was "a wearable access badge," Bathiche said, to hang around the neck or on a belt loop, giving quick access to AI-driven work.

Firm chooses Aberdeen for sexually transmitted infection research lab

A company developing at-home sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests has established a base at Aberdeen’s £40million ONE BioHub.

LotusDx is developing tests for infections including chlamydia and gonorrhoea that could allow users to receive results through a smartphone app, without attending a clinic or sending samples away for laboratory analysis.

It has opened a research and development laboratory at the Foresterhill Centre, becoming the latest life sciences firm to put down roots there.

Three quarters of workers not on track for 'moderate' pension income, report suggests

Too many people face a "cliff-edge drop in income" when they retire, with more than three quarters not on course to save enough for a "moderate" lifestyle, a pensions trade body has warned.

A new report by Pensions UK suggested what it termed a moderate lifestyle cost £32,700 for one person and £45,400 for two - but estimated just 23% of the working population were on course to reach such a level.

Rising bills have pushed up the cost of retirement, it said, adding to calls for action to boost retirement savings.

SpaceX worth less than half its $1.8trn valuation, analysts warn

Elon Musk’s technology conglomerate SpaceX could be worth less than half the $1.8trillion valuation it is targeting in the biggest stock market flotation in history, investors have been warned.

Analysts at Morningstar said they valued SpaceX at $780billion and that shares in the rockets-to-AI business were likely to be “overvalued in almost any scenario, at least in the near term”.

In a cautious assessment designed to puncture some of the hype surrounding the blockbuster listing, Morningstar said prospective investors should be mindful of the “substantial risks” facing the company, which is controlled by Musk, the world’s richest person.
