Young theatre makers will have a chance to shine with new workshops

A brand new opportunity for aspiring theatre makers to develop their skills in Aberdeen will kick off with a four week workshop programme beginning next month.

APA Young Company will offer the chance for 18-25 year olds to develop their skills, share practice, gain industry experience and take control of the artistic process.

The four week workshop programme comprises specialised sessions from leading industry experts and will be followed by an audition to select the Young Company members who will go on to create the group’s first project.

Aberdeen Performing Arts is looking for experienced, reflective and adventurous emerging artists with an interest in working as an ensemble to create interesting, vibrant high quality performances, taking responsibility for all aspects of the production process.

Aberdeen Performing Arts drama development co-ordinator, Laura Callahan, commented: “While performance skills are essential, we would be particularly interested in those wishing to develop further skills, for example in directing, writing, technical or design. Experience is preferred however commitment, a willingness to learn and experiment and an ability to work as part of an ensemble is what we are really looking for. This is a really exciting, brand new opportunity and I can’t wait to see the results!”

To celebrate the launch of the Young Company, a series of intensive theatre making workshops will be held from January 24 until February 14 in His Majesty’s Theatre Education Studio, followed by a workshop audition on Thursday, February 21 to select the Young Company members who will move forward with the project.
