A number of Aberdeen and North-east firms have been named in The Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50 list as some of the country's fastest growing businesses.

Balmoral Group, First Tech, Dean's, Forsyths, Malcolm Allan Housebuilders and Texo all feature on the list, which showcases companies from across diverse sectors and in different parts of the country.

Criteria for eligibility includes businesses having an average annual growth in revenue of at least 20% across the two most recent financial years. Companies were also asked about strategy, job creation, fundraising and plans for further expansion.

One of the most notable companies to feature on the list, Sir Jim Milne's Balmoral Group is described as having "unusually broad shoulders".

The Times article states: "Recent growth has come from areas including offshore wind protection technology, international expansion in storage tanks and investment in the Marcliffe Hotel.

"It is also a business with a philanthropic streak, supporting charitable work through the Milne Family Foundation and Friends of ANCHOR. Annual sales have reached £202.4million, but Balmoral is still driven by an appetite for reinvention."

First Tech also features, with the list highlighting its "useful habit of moving with the market".

The information on the list states: "Founded by Ian Suttie and now chaired by his son Martin, the group spans eight companies, originally rooted in oil and gas but increasingly active in offshore wind.

"Recent growth has come from areas including decommissioning, rig moves, subsea cable protection and acquisitions such as Tusk Lifting and Andrews Survey. First Tech has annual sales of £72million and 390 staff, combining family enterprise with the kind of energy-sector knowhow that travels well from oil and gas into offshore wind."
