Aberdeen Arts Centre will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, May 27, to lay out plans for the ongoing Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign.

Starting at 6.30pm, the open public meeting will provide background on the centre’s situation, outline plans for the future, and encourage supporters to get involved in the campaign to save the beloved arts venue.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to pose questions to a panel of staff and board members.

Attendance is free, however attendees can choose to add a donation when registering here: https://www.aberdeenartscentre.com/whats-on/save-aberdeen-arts-centre-open-public-meeting

“The sheer level of noise and support over the last few days since we launched the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign shows just how much this place means to the people of Aberdeen,” said Eve Nicol, programming and creative director.

“Aberdeen Arts Centre has always been a venue of the people, providing so much for people of all ages and from all backgrounds.

“So, we look forward to meeting members of the public on Tuesday who’d like to find out more about the Arts Centre, and who can help us preserve this vital community arts organisation.

“We’re excited to hear people’s suggestions and ideas, and to gather as many people together as possible who are as passionate about grassroots arts in the north east of Scotland as we are.”

Hundreds of venue users, performers, volunteers and staff – past and present – gathered to show their support for Aberdeen Arts Centre as it launched its fundraising campaign.

The Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign sees the historic grassroots arts venue aim to raise £660,000 over three years to support its operations.

The organisation has set an initial target of raising £180,000 by July 1, 2025. Restoring reserves by this date will provide evidence of the centre’s longevity ahead of a planned Aberdeen City Council debate on July 2, where elected officials can choose to reinstate funding.

The campaign has already received backing from a host of famous faces including actors Laura Main, Amy Lennox and Brian Cox; Hollywood director Jon S Baird; magician Barry Jones; and virtuoso percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie.

Aberdeen Arts Centre is an independent arts venue and registered charity in the heart of Aberdeen. For over 60 years, it has played a crucial role in the north east’s vibrant arts scene through its programme of performances, Creative Learning Programme for children and adults, and an Artist Development Programme to support local professional creatives.

The venue encompasses a 350-seater auditorium; café bar; flexible spaces for performances, events, exhibitions and meetings; and the Children’s Theatre, opened by Catherine Hollingworth in the 1950s as a pioneering youth theatre (the first of its kind in the UK) and now used as a vital resource for professional artist development.
