A local Aberdeen charity has received a five-figure cash boost from the trustees of a wound up bowling club.
The playing of bowls at Bonnymuir bowling club ceased at the end of 2014 due to a lack of playing members and steps were put in place to wind up the club. The main asset – the land comprising the bowling green – was sold at the end of 2018 to Bonnymuir Green Community Trust as part of a Community Asset Transfer. The trust has now developed the area into a sustainable market garden and café for local community residents.
The trustees of Bonnymuir bowling club have donated the sum of £13,750 to Home-Start Aberdeen to benefit local families with young children.
The bowling club’s constitution stated that following the dissolution of the club and sale of assets the trustees were to share monies equally between a number of local charities.
Home-Start Aberdeen works to build strong families and happy children in local communities through the provision of trained, supportive volunteers who visit families with young children in their own homes, helping them to deal with challenges they face.
Eleanor McEwan, general manager for Home-Start Aberdeen said: “Thanks to the donation from the trustees of Bonnymuir Bowling Club we can change the future for a number of children and their families in areas of Aberdeen who need our support the most.”
Home-Start Aberdeen has been supporting families in Aberdeen city since 1987. The charity is one of the largest Home-Start schemes in the UK working with families in many communities across Aberdeen. In the past year alone the charity has supported 205 families, including 340 children, with 27,500 hours of emotional and practical support in their own homes.
