Aberdeen Concert Band has announced an afternoon concert to fundraise for one of Aberdeen’s best loved venues.

At 3pm on Sunday, November 9, the band’s varied programme – featuring the likes of Hymn of the Highlands, In the Mood and The Dambusters – will raise funds for the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign.

Tickets for the performance are available at https://www.aberdeenartscentre.com/whats-on/selections-from-aberdeen-concert-band.

Joanne Cranswick from Aberdeen Concert Band said: “Sharing the music we love with the public is the reason we are all members of Aberdeen Concert band, so we’re excited to be heading soon to one of our favourite venues.

“One of our members, Leslie McLeish, has volunteered at the Arts Centre for a number of years, so we are very much aware of the impact it has on the lives of tens of thousands of people each year.

“We are delighted to be able to raise funds for the campaign to keep Aberdeen Arts Centre open for future generations, and look forward to playing for a packed auditorium in November.”

Aberdeen Concert Band was founded in 2004, and since then has gone on to become one of the city’s premier musical groups. The 50-piece woodwind and brass band is directed by Colin Hunter.

Aberdeen Arts Centre fundraiser Julia Smith added: “We are so grateful to Aberdeen Concert Band for holding a fundraiser for the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign. Many people know the Arts Centre as a place to enjoy musicals and plays, but it’s also a very important music venue – and we’re thrilled to build on that with Aberdeen Concert Band this November.

“The response to the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign has been a powerful reminder of why community-focused venues like ours matter. We are hugely thankful to all the local performing groups – like Aberdeen Concert Band – and the members of the public who have donated their time and money to the campaign to keep the spotlight shining on their local creative community.”

Aberdeen Arts Centre is an independent arts venue in the heart of Aberdeen, operated by registered charity Castlegate Arts Ltd for over a quarter of a century.

For more than 60 years, Aberdeen Arts Centre has played a crucial role in the north east’s vibrant arts scene through its programme of performances, Creative Learning Programme for children and adults, and an Artist Development Programme to support local professional creatives.

In May 2025, the centre launched the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign – a three-year fundraising drive to raise £660,000 to secure its future. The campaign has raised over £130,000 so far. Aberdeen Arts Centre encompasses a 350-seater auditorium; café bar; flexible spaces for performances, events, exhibitions and meetings; and the Children’s Theatre, opened by Catherine Hollingworth in the 1950s as a pioneering youth theatre (the first of its kind in the UK) and now used as a vital resource for professional artist development.
