The University of Aberdeen's iconic Sir Duncan Rice Library is the latest Granite City landmark set to feature in the new series of Netflix hit drama Dept. Q.
Camera crews, truckloads of equipment, and the stars themselves have created a buzz in recent weeks after descending on the city, being spotted set up around the beach area, including by Pittodrie Stadium, at the stunning Art Deco Bon Accord Baths building, and now at the University of Aberdeen.
Featuring in the hotly anticipated second series of the hugely popular Netflix show is just the latest spotlight to be shone on the university library.
In June, Aberdeen FC released its new away kit for the 2026/27 season featuring a design inspired by the eye-catching patterns on the Sir Duncan Rice Library.
Confirming alternative arrangements in place for students during the filming, a University of Aberdeen spokesperson told The Press and Journal: “We are committed to maximising opportunities from our estate which will enable us to contribute to the local and regional economy but always seek to balancing this against our core functions of education, teaching and research."
“Steps were taken to minimise disruption through the provision of alternative study spaces and to ensure library materials could still be accessed throughout. This was communicated in advance through our student news channels, website, social media and on-site signage.”
