Aberdeen Lifeboat was paged at 9.10am today, 28 August 2018, when an offshore industry helicopter approximately 4 miles off the coast reported receiving transmissions from a distress beacon.
The all-weather lifeboat ‘Bon Accord’ launched and made best speed to the scene but was unable to detect the signal.
The lifeboat was stood down at 10am when it was discovered that a personal locator beacon (PLB) had been inadvertently activated during maintenance at a facility at Aberdeen Airport.
This was Aberdeen Lifeboat’s 23rd call-out in 2018.
