An Abba-themed afternoon tea has raised over £7,000 for Aberdeen family support charity, Home-Start.
The event which was held at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa on Sunday, May 19, was hosted by The Friends of Home-Start Aberdeen to raise funds for the charity which provides volunteer support to families with young children living in Aberdeen.
The 70’s themed event attracted over 260 ladies who enjoyed an afternoon of Abba themed entertainment as well as a fashion show which featured clothing from the charity’s George Street shop.
Ally Cartwright, head of The Friends group commented, “It was such a fun afternoon and we are just thrilled to raise so much for Home-Start. The team and all their volunteers play such a vital role for so many families in Aberdeen. The money we have raised will support them to reach more families in Aberdeen.”
Home-Start Aberdeen works to build strong families and happy children in local communities through the provision of trained, supportive volunteers who visit families with young children in their own homes, helping them to deal with challenges they face.
Eleanor McEwan, general manager said: “Our volunteers provide life changing emotional and practical support to families, living in Aberdeen, who could be struggling with isolation, physical and/or mental health problems, bereavement, post-natal depression and/or many other issues. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. We rely on events such as this to help support the delivery of our core work and it really does make a huge difference. Following Home-Start support over 90% of parents see significant improvements in their own and their children’s emotional and physical health and wellbeing.”
In the past year alone the charity has supported 205 families, including 340 children, with 27,500 hours of emotional and practical support in their own homes.
