The Alba Party is to be wound down, its leader has announced amid severe financial issues.
Kenny MacAskill admitted the pro-independence party's membership levels had dropped significantly along with its income.
MacAskill has also said the party, which was founded by the late Alex Salmond, has been the victim of fraud, with police investigating "irregularities" since May 2025.
MacAskill had calls to resign as leader if he would not lead Alba into the Holyrood election, the BBC reports.
Angus MacNeil, the former SNP MP who joined Alba in 2024, described it as a "sad and unnecessary end" to the party.
He said: "We could have saved it too, and helped gather the list votes for independence but we couldn't get control of Alba's decision-making.
"There was great determination to finish off the party from the leadership."
The decision to wind down the party comes after senior Alba Party figures met with the Electoral Commission and were told it would have to either voluntarily de-register or face statutory de-registration.
The party's national executive committee decided to wind down voluntarily.
