The Tri-Nation international series is taking place in the city this week, with Scotland facing Oman and Papua New Guinea. The matches are being played as One Day International fixtures at Mannofield Cricket Club in the city centre.
The matches form part of the 2019-2022 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tournament, which leads to the qualification rounds for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
On Tuesday, August 20, the Scotland V Papua New Guinea match will support CLAN Cancer Support, the north-east’s leading cancer support charity. Cricket Scotland’s national sponsors Lord Taverners and The Brain Tumour Charity will be supported on the other match days.
CLAN support personnel will be in attendance before and after the match on Tuesday, with collections made at the gates to help support CLAN’s activities in the community.
Included in the Scotland line-up are three local men who hit their first balls in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
CLAN community fundraising manager Neil Martin said: “As an ex player and a keen fan of cricket I was delighted to hear that Scotland was coming to Aberdeen to play a series of one day matches. It is impressive that Cricket Scotland is supporting a local charity.
“Sport is a great way to keep fit and active and is a real release from pressures of every day life, and so we are delighted that Scotland’s national team is partnering with CLAN to help us continue to support those undergoing very difficult situations.

“Our captain, Kyle Coetzer and Matthew Cross were born in Aberdeen, and Adrian Neill started off his cricketing career with Nairn before he moved to Aberdeen, so it’s a homecoming for them. We hope to see lots of cricket fans come out to see the local boys and watch Scotland play this week.”
Over 20,000 people play cricket recreationally and Scotland and the game is enjoying a hiatus following the recent world cup.
Scotland can be seen competing at Mannofield Cricket Club from August 14 - 21, 2019.
