Art Extravaganza returns to city to raise funds for Maggie’s

The city’s second pop-up Art Extravaganza, which will feature exclusively original artworks from local and nationally acclaimed artists including Iain Faulkner, Stephen Conroy, Jack Morrocco, Carol Scouller, amongst others, is heading back to Aberdeen, with local charity Maggie’s benefiting in the process.

The pop-up art gallery will be held at The Chester Hotel on Queens Road from November 13-14, with all proceeds from sales of the exclusive pieces on show going towards the cancer support charity. Entry to the art sale and show is free, with the pop-up remaining open over the two days for the public to view the art.

Maggie’s Aberdeen ambassadors Patricia Straughen and David Reid have a keen interest in supporting the charity and with, local business man, Mr Reid’s love of art they put their passions to good use.

Both were instrumental in the first Art Extravaganza in 2016, which raised over £100,000 for the centre, and are working hard to make this year’s event even bigger and better.

Mr Reid has been involved in securing the original works of art from some of the UK’s most highly acclaimed artists to showcase to art lovers, with the exhibition set to feature around 50 artists. These include popular favourites like, Hazel McAllister, Alison Davidson, Sandie Youngson, Mary Louise Butterworth, Marie Buchan, Colin Brown, Ewan McClure and many more.

A wide range of genres, including still life, abstracts, landscapes and figurative works will be on display and available to purchase with prices ranging from £60 to £15,000.

David commented: “We are extremely excited to have the Art Extravaganza open its doors once again this year.

“The event is a great opportunity for the public to admire and purchase art from some of the most renowned artists in the UK – at a wide range of prices, and to suit many different tastes. And with Maggie’s benefiting from each and every purchase – what could be better!

“The Chester Hotel is such a perfect venue to beautifully showcase over 200 pieces of art and we can’t thank Graham and Gillian Wood enough for their support.”

Paula Cormack, Centre fundraising manager said: “We are thrilled to receive the continued support from Patricia and David in their endeavour to bring some of the top contemporary artists in the UK to Aberdeen for the Art Extravaganza.

“Everyone at Maggie’s is so grateful for all their hard work in bringing these brilliant artists together for the benefit of the charity, as we rely solely on voluntary donations to support and develop the unique, high quality programme of support to those in the North-east.”
