Aberdeen's scrapped hydrogen bus project cost almost £14million, new figured have revealed.

Earlier this year it emerged Aberdeen City Council was looking to exit its Hydrogen Hub partnership with BP.

It was reported the council was set to sell off its 25 hydrogen buses which had been let to First.

Figures obtained by STV News now reveal the purchase price of that fleet was around £13.9million, with the local authority using an EU project to help purchase the vehicles.

The fleet of hydrogen buses has not been in use for some time due to issues with fueling stations.

The data also shows that Aberdeen City Council provided the Hydrogen Hub - which had been hoped to create around 700 jobs by 2030 - with more than £13million in funding.

STV News also understands the Scottish Government has provided more than £18.5m of funding over the lifetime of Aberdeen City Council’s hydrogen programme.

The UK Government has provided just under £300,000.
