Backstage Tours at HMT - new dates released

Have you always fancied having a peek behind the scenes at His Majesty’s Theatre? Now is your chance – and with extra weekday dates now available throughout the summer, it has never been easier to join us for a backstage tour!

Delve into the fascinating history of the 111 year-old theatre on Rosemount Viaduct and discover some backstage secrets. New dates have been announced, with availability on July 7 and 28, August 4, 18 and 25, and September 1, 8 and 15.

Additional weekday tours are also on offer on July 17, 18 and 27, and August 10 and 17.

The popular tours of the Edwardian theatre are 90 minutes long and are led by APA’s enthusiastic volunteers, who will take visitors through His Majesty’s modern £7.8m extension as well as the 111-year-old original building, designed by the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham.

The tour explores the new and old sections of the city centre landmark, providing an opportunity to get onstage and see HMT from the eyes of a performer in one of the most beautiful theatres in Scotland.

Tours begin at 10.30am, until 12 noon, with further tours, from 12.30 – 2pm on July 7 and 28, August 4, 18 and 25, and September 1. Once the tour is over participants have the option to head upstairs to the lovely setting of 1906 Restaurant for a catch-up over afternoon tea including homemade sandwiches, cakes and scones, and a warming coffee or pot of tea – with the option to upgrade to a small bottle of Prosecco, charged at a supplement.

Places are limited to 20 per tour and can be booked through Aberdeen Box Office online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, in person at His Majesty’s Theatre or The Lemon Tree, or by phone on 01224 641122. Tickets for the tour alone are £5.50, with a cost of £20 for the tour with afternoon tea, with a supplement payable for the addition of Prosecco.
