Befriend a Child is hosting exciting event to raise money for disadvantaged children growing in the community.

Children who are growing up in difficult life circumstances are referred for support from Befriend a Child through approved referral partners. Children can be referred for a number of reasons, they may be experiencing lack of confidence, low self-esteem, or social isolation. They may be suffering abuse and neglect at home, have a parent who is struggling with substance misuse, or they may be in need of a positive adult role model. Having the 1:1 support of a befriender or mentor can have a transformational effect on these children, allowing them the opportunity to experience more of what life has to offer and create happy childhood memories.

The local befriending charity is hosting a night of live entertainment, games, dancing, live music and a delicious three course dinner on the May 27 at The Chester Hotel.

‘We want to bring a fun, lively, exciting event to Aberdeen whilst raising funds for some of the most disadvantaged children and young people in our community.” Katie Kyle – Head of Fundraising and Marketing

Supporting the exciting black-tie event will be WM Donald and DW Wealth Planning: “We are delighted to be Platinum Sponsors for Befriend a Child’s Carnival Ball for the first time. We are looking forward to a great night and helping raise money for local disadvantaged children” Elaine Donald – Director WM Donald Ltd.

“DW Wealth Planning Ltd are delighted to provide Befriend a Child with Silver Sponsorship. It is a pleasure to support this local charity to aid the work they do with disadvantaged children and know that we have contributed in turning a frown upside down!” - Dave Walker - Chartered Financial Planner/Director, DW Wealth Planning.

The previous Big Kids Ball in 2019 raised a staggering £49,655, all directly going towards supporting school-aged children and young people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire who are growing up in difficult life circumstances. Typically, these are children whose fundamental childhood years have been neglected or lost due to issues outside of their control.

These young people are matched with trained volunteers or ‘Befrienders’ or ‘Mentors’, who act as positive role models to help children develop resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem. The charity runs one to one befriending and mentoring programmes, youth clubs and holiday playschemes.

Tickets cost £95pp and table will be made up of up to ten guests. For more information and to book your table contact k.kyle@befriendachild.org.uk or call Befriend a Child on 01224 210060.
