The inaugural Braemar Literary Festival takes place this weekend (7th-9th October 2022).

The festival is being held in collaboration with HM The Queen Consort’s ‘READING ROOM' a hub for literary communities around the world celebrating literature in all its forms, and is co-curated by Genevieve Gaunt with support from Tom Parker Bowles, St Margaret’s and local cultural partners.

The Braemar Literary Festival aims to explore the creative use of words and text in their broadest sense; celebrating the works of bestselling authors alongside visual artists, spoken word performers, singer-songwriters, scriptwriters, critics and publishers alike, reflecting the many ways in which the ’literary’ creatively enhances our lives.

The festival promises to be an exciting two-day event bringing together the Braemar community, Fife Arms guests and literary lovers.

The weekend will bring the Deeside village to life with Q&A events from some of the world’s most prominent literary greats, including Sebastian Faulks and Ian Rankin, former Scottish Makar Jackie Kay and novelist Justine Picardie.

The community-focused event will also include readings from newly-appointed ‘Scots Scriever’, the Doric language champion and writer Shane Strachan and walking tours to the house where Robert Louis Stevenson spent the summer of 1881 in Braemar and wrote Treasure Island, his first great work.

Looking forward to the weekend Lyndsey Boden, Venue Manager of St Margaret's Braemar, said: “St Margaret’s is so looking forward to hosting some real literary legends this weekend for the inaugural Braemar Literary Festival.

“For a brand new festival, we’ve got some real big hitters joining us — household names like Sebastian Faulks and the king of tartan noir himself, Ian Rankin.

“There is such an amazing programme to look forward to and something for everyone on the bill — food and drink, brilliant poetry and a great range of community events to boot that will really put Deeside in the spotlight.

“The best news is that there are still a handful of tickets remaining - so be sure to grab yours and head for Braemar this weekend!”
