Blackadders LLP is to donate £34,000 to Maggie’s Centres across Scotland after a year of fundraising for the cancer support network.

The firm adopted Maggie’s as its charity of the year for 2025 and Blackadders’ teams from every office took part in a series of events and challenges to raise around £24,000. The firm boosted the fundraising efforts by employees with an extra donation of £10,000.

Across 2025, teams took part in Kiltwalks, firewalks, bake sales and charitable events at each office.

Emma Gray, joint managing partner, said: “What an incredible effort the whole team has put in this year to help Maggie’s. We aim to be at the heart of our communities and everyone has risen to the challenge of helping a charity that does such incredible work for people and families affected by cancer.”

In recent years, the firm has adopted a more co-ordinated approach to charitable fundraising and Maggie’s was adopted as its charity of the year in 2025 after the Sistema Big Noise project benefitted from £16,000 from the firm throughout 2024.

Maggie's Centres provide free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends. The centres offer expert advice from professionals like cancer support specialists, psychologists and benefits advisors, as well as a variety of groups, workshops and classes like yoga and art. This support can help with managing stress, financial worries, grief and the physical and emotional effects of cancer treatment.

In the past year, tens of thousands of pounds worth of Wills were prepared for people with cancer using Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow Maggie’s Centres by the Blackadders’ Private Client solicitors. They have regularly attended the centres every month to meet with clients throughout to provide advice on complex personal circumstances and to draft Wills and Powers of Attorney for individuals who are vulnerable, contemplating end of life and what this means for their friends and relatives.

The aim was to offer guidance and peace of mind to ensure that those at a very difficult stage of their lives could focus on their health and wellbeing. Due to the time pressures involved, the team at Blackadders ensures that documents are prepared, given to clients for approval and then signed in short turnaround times.

Laura McDowall, Head of the Private Client Team, said: “It has been a humbling and emotional year helping people with cancer with their personal affairs. We have been inspired and energised by so many people. It is great to be able to donate to Maggie’s as well as offering a free Will service to centre users.”

Annie Long, Centre Fundraising Manager for Maggie’s in Dundee, said: “At Maggie's we are so grateful to Blackadder's for their fundraising and match funding for our Scottish centres.

“This massive effort and huge generosity have helped us give emotional care to people with cancer and their loved ones on nearly 50,000 occasions at four of our Scottish centres. We can't thank the team enough.”

Blackadders’ team members have chosen CHAS – Children’s Hospices Across Scotland - to be the firm’s Charity of the Year for 2026. CHAS supports siblings, parents, carers, other family members and significant people in the lives of children with life-shortening conditions. They help to create lasting memories and manage medical needs.
