CALA Homes backs new stadium vision for Aberdeen

Westhill-based CALA Homes (North) has spoken out in support of the Aurora campaign which seeks to build a landmark new Aberdeen Football Club stadium.

The leading homebuilder, which was founded in Aberdeen more than 140 years ago, recognises the potential new stadium as an opportunity to boost the entire region, bringing not just a world class sports facility but jobs, investment and a much-deserved positive spotlight on Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Mike Naysmith, managing director at CALA Homes (North), said: “The proposed new stadium close to Westhill would be right on our doorstep, and we would wholly embrace it as an outstanding opportunity for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

“The implications of such a prestigious and world class facility in the area are far reaching, delivering employment, substantial investment and community facilities while creating a stadium that showcases Aberdeen on a global stage, giving the city and Shire a renewed sense of pride.

“There is sometimes a false perception of Aberdeen as the ‘poor relation’ in terms of facilities and investment compared with other Scottish cities, however the new stadium and its many associated benefits for the whole region would certainly draw admiration from across the country, and beyond, giving a strong signal to the world that Aberdeen is very much open for business.

“CALA was established right here as the City of Aberdeen Land Association 142 years ago, so we have seen many changes in the city and surrounding area – much of which we helped to shape, and still do today. The new stadium would be a welcome addition to Aberdeen’s bright future and we look forward to the council’s decision on the planning application.”

George Yule, vice chairman of Aberdeen Football Club, said: “We are extremely grateful to CALA Homes for backing our plans and we are very encouraged to know the award-winning homebuilder supports our vision of creating a state of the art facility for the people of the North-east.

“We’d like to thank CALA Homes, and the many other businesses across the North-East who have supported our Aurora campaign over the last few weeks, and we look forward to hearing Aberdeen City Council’s decision on our plans in a fortnight’s time.”

The proposed development would see the creation of a £50m, state-of-the-art sporting complex, including a community and sports campus, football academy and stadium, at Kingsford, close to Westhill.
