Carjon-NRG, a technology deployment services company and UK Energy Technology Platform, a forum for connecting energy industry professionals to innovative solutions, have joined the Young Person’s Guarantee.
The Young Person’s Guarantee is an initiative to bring together employers, partners and young people, with the aim of connecting every 16–24-year-old in Scotland to an opportunity. Employers who join the Guarantee commit to supporting young people by offering assistance in one, or more, key areas.
Carjon-NRG is owned and managed by Colin Black, who is also UK Partner at UK Energy Technology Platform & Technologycatalogue.com. Colin’s passion for inspiring the next generation about careers in energy spans several decades. He has delivered countless activities in schools in his own right and also spearheads volunteer activities with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen in his role as a director. As Chairman of NASA in Aberdeen, Colin has been instrumental in bringing NASA astronauts, scientists and engineers to the region to talk to pupils, with a return visit planned later this year. He is committed to informing young people about the array of opportunities that exist across the sector, receiving the Significant Contribution Award at the SPE Offshore Achievement Awards earlier this year in recognition of his efforts.
"Our energy transition journey to net zero will require technology companies to engage with pupils, teachers and parents to help promote future career opportunities in oil, gas, offshore wind, CCS, hydrogen and renewable energy,” said Colin. “Supporting Developing the Young Workforce North East and the Young Person's Guarantee is the most effective way to do this. The positive feedback from one of my recent visits to Inverurie Academy pupils was tremendous and highlighted multiple opportunities to support Developing the Young Workforce North East and the school further".
Margo Milne, Director of Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East, leads a 17-strong team dedicated to helping employers support young people through the Young Person’s Guarantee.
“This recognition of Colin’s ongoing efforts is incredibly well-deserved,” she said. “Colin has shared his time and expertise with huge numbers of young people over the years and he is a tremendous ambassador for our work at DYW North East. We are delighted that Carjon-NRG and UK Energy Technology Platform have achieved Young Person’s Guarantee employer status.”
