Former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell is accused of embezzling nearly £460,000 of party funds, with a £125,000 luxury motorhome at the centre of the most detailed allegation.

Court papers, published in The Sun this morning, claim Murrell bought a Niesmann and Bischoff Smove 7.4e motorhome at a cost of £124,550 from a dealer in Staffordshire, using SNP funds.

It is alleged he initially used £12,500 on an SNP credit card in his name in October 2020, before paying a further £112,050 on December 7, 2020 by transferring the sum from an SNP bank account.

Murrell is also accused of creating “false” sales documents to portray the purchase as a legitimate party expense, before allegedly taking possession of the motorhome in Dunfermline and storing it near his mother’s home.

The charge is among eight embezzlement allegations Murrell is due to face at the High Court in Glasgow next week.

In total, he is accused of embezzling £459,046.49 of SNP funds between August 12, 2010 and January 13, 2023.
