St Machar’s Cathedral has announced its Christmas services for 2022.
The 11pm Watchnight Service on 24th December is always a highlight of the advent season. This is a traditional service of lessons and carols with the full St Machar’s choir. The Cathedral is always beautifully decorated and lit by candles which enhances the ambiance. This Christmas Service in one of Aberdeen’s most beautiful churches is open to all.
St Machar’s welcomes visitors of all ages and hosts a couple of services specifically for children and families. Our popular Christingle Service at 6pm on Christmas Eve blends the Christmas story with a craft activity for children. Arrive 20 minute before the 6pm service and help your young ones make a Christingle to take home.
St Machar’s Cathedral is open 10.00 – 16.00, 7 days a week. It is open to visitors during the festive period to explore the rich history of Aberdeen’s oldest building still in daily use, or simply to take time out to reflect.
Welcoming visitors to St Machar’s this Christmas, Rev Sarah Brown said:
"This year more than ever we need a reminder that we do not live this life alone, but in community. In church we seek to learn how to be that community of love as we journey the unknowns that make up a life of faith. We are glad to offer a place for all to come and be together in a service, or find some solace in our beautiful cathedral that holds the prayers of the saints that have travelled before us."
