As part of the Golden Games 2018, Citymoves Dance Agency created and delivered a Flashmob Event – the first of its kind celebrating elder dancers in the city!
The Golden Games is Aberdeen’s Festival of activity and sport and showcases the wealth of activities on offer, not least Dance, which research has shown to be one of the best anti-aging activities of all.
Key to the event’s success were members of Quicksilver, Citymoves elders dance company, who first created a catchy sequence to a current pop tune and then taught it to participants from the Golden Games in workshops offered free as part of the Festival. The majority of the performers were aged 65 and above and showed that enthusiasm, energy and style are not confined to the younger generations.
The Flashmob was performed at city centre locations, first outside Marks & Spencer/St Nicholas Centre and then at the Marischal Square development, beside Mackies Ice Cream Parlour and the Andy Scott sculpture.
The event has been captured on film and a live feed is available on Citymoves Facebook page if anyone missed the action.
This event is one of a range of ways Citymoves engages with the community across Aberdeen, in ways which include and energise the participants. We are always looking for ways to deliver alongside our partners in the city, to use the best indoor and outdoor sites to bring dance to a new audiences and to engage with new participants. Watch out for more outdoor and site specific works later this year, as part of the DanceLive Festival.
