With development of the new Aberdeen South Harbour Link Road road well underway with implementation expected to start in summer 2026, roads officers have now been asked to consult with local communities on any residual impacts that they feel might remain following the installation of the new road.

The new link road will provide improved direct links to the South Harbour for large vehicles, prioritising the corridor through a new junction arrangement between Hareness Road and Coast Road.

The new link road support the Altens Industrial Estate as it grows as a focal area for the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) developing brown field sites and opening up for further development, alongside the existing training and supply chain operations already in the area.

Historically neighbouring communities have experienced a reduced feeling of safety, and increased noise and disruption due to HGVs travelling on residential road networks.

The consultation asks whether you think these issues will persist with the new road network in place and or what additional measures do you think could be used to protect communities from inappropriate vehicles.

More details about the new link road design and the many traffic management measures that might be employed, alongside the questionnaire, are available to view here.

The consultation closes on February 9, 2026 with the results expected to be reported to Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee in March 2026.
