This week, Two Winning Denis Law Legacy Trust Teams faced the Class of ’92 at Hotel Football in Manchester in a once in a lifetime opportunity 5-a-side football match.

The teams took to the pitch on the roof of the iconic Hotel Football in Manchester next to Old Trafford to play against football legends from the iconic Class of ’92 that included Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville as well as John O Shea and Steve Bruce’s son Alex Bruce. The teams secured this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after winning a hotly contested auction prize at the Trust’s fundraising dinner.

The winning teams – comprised of long-time supporters of the Trust – enjoyed an overnight stay at Hotel Football with pre and post-match hospitality but the highlight of the experience was the match against the Class of ’92.

Russell Macphee, one of the Aberdeen players said “Playing football with these legends was an unforgettable experience, when you find yourself shouting “I’ve got Giggsy”, you really pinch yourself and ask, “Did I just say that! ” We have played as a 5’s team for a while now but to all wear Scotland shirts together against all these former internationals was just incredible, a wonderful experience to share with my friends”

“This was more than just a game,” said Mark Williams from the Denis Law Legacy Trust. This was an opportunity for groups of friends to step onto the same pitch together with some of their childhood icons and legends of the game. I’m delighted we could provide this opportunity for some of our charity’s supporters and I’m incredibly grateful to the Class of ’92 and in particular Gary Neville who helped make it all happen. Their continued support of Denis Law Legacy Trust is incredibly appreciated as is everyone’s who contributed to the success of our annual fundraising dinner.”

Colin Lawson, captain of the 2nd team who’s played their game in Scotland Blue with “Law 10” on the back of their shirts as a nod to the great man himself said “It’s been wonderful for myself and my colleagues to spend some quality time with these guys, they were great company both on and off the pitch” memories we will all cherish for a long time to come.

The matches were indeeda memorable occasion, blending competitive spirit with camaraderie, and have provided lifelong stories to tell friends about for years to come.
