Aberdeen-based creative agency Farsight has recently completed a new documentary in collaboration with Aberdeen Arts Centre, shining a light on the history, legacy and lasting impact of one of the city’s most valued cultural venues.
Presented by Call the Midwife actress Laura Main, the film explores the story of Aberdeen Arts Centre and its place within the city’s creative and community life. The documentary was produced to celebrate the venue’s heritage while also recognising the role it continues to play in giving people a space to perform, connect, and find their voice.
For Farsight, the project was about more than simply documenting a building or timeline. It was about capturing the spirit of a place that has meant so much to so many people across generations.
Michael Silva, Founder of Farsight, said: “This was a meaningful project for us to be part of. Aberdeen Arts Centre holds a special place in the hearts of many people in the city, and the documentary gave us the chance to help tell that story in a way that felt honest, thoughtful and accessible. We’re grateful to everyone who supported the production and helped bring it to life.”
The documentary combines storytelling, history and local pride, with Laura Main guiding audiences through the narrative and helping bring added warmth and recognition to the piece. Her involvement helped strengthen a film already rooted in community, creativity and cultural value.
Aberdeen Arts Centre has long been recognised as an important part of the city’s arts landscape, supporting performances, emerging talent and community engagement for many years. For Farsight, working on the documentary was also an opportunity to demonstrate the value of film in preserving stories that matter and helping organisations communicate their wider significance.
The project reflects Farsight’s broader approach to visual storytelling: using film not simply as content, but as a way to connect people to purpose, heritage and identity.
As Aberdeen Arts Centre continues to look ahead, the documentary stands as both a tribute to its past and a reminder of the role the arts continue to play in shaping the future of the city.
