Go purple to celebrate local charity's birthday

A local cancer support charity is urging people to host a birthday bake off in September to mark its landmark birthday.

CLAN Cancer Support celebrates its 35th birthday in September and, to mark the occasion, is calling on supporters to get involved and bake for CLAN as part of its awareness and fundraising campaign ‘Go Purple For CLAN’.

From September 2 to September 9 CLAN is calling on individuals, groups and businesses to host a bake sale in their office or with family and friends to raise funds to support local people affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Over the years, a number of landmarks from Orkney to Aberdeen have been turned purple and organisations and schools have taken on a wide range of purple themed fundraising challenges.

Ruth McIntosh, CLAN Cancer Support fundraising coordinator, says people can use their imagination and create their own purple celebration.

She said: “Each year we are so impressed by the different ideas that individuals, groups, schools and workplaces come up with to support Go Purple For CLAN. This year we want people to come together, enjoy some time out of their day and celebrate the fact that CLAN has been providing support and information for people affected by a cancer diagnosis for 35 years.

“However big or small, the fundraising and awareness that can be raised for the services CLAN provides throughout North-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland, is so important.”

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort, support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness.

Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of North-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Buckie, Crimond, Elgin, Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Lossiemouth, Peterhead, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.
