Secondary school creatives have been invited to join Gray’s School of Art for its latest Young Art Weekender programme that takes place next month.
Budding artists in S1-S4 will have the opportunity to register for multiple hands-on workshops out of a total of eight, ranging from photography to drawing and printmaking to sculpting.
Taking place on the weekend of June 14-15, participants will take inspiration from the Gray’s School of Art Degree Show – an annual staple in the creative industry calendar that launches to the public on Saturday, 07 June.
Emmajane Kingaby, Creative Development Co-ordinator, Gray’s School of Art at Robert Gordon University (RGU), said: “Our Young Art Weekender programme offers young people an exciting opportunity to take part in a range of hands-on art and design workshops, where they can explore, experiment, and express themselves in a dynamic, professional environment.
“They’ll also have the chance to draw inspiration from those graduating, meet and talk to final-year students, and see first-hand the kind of work being produced at degree level.
“Nurturing the next generation of creatives is essential—both for the future of the industry and for the individuals themselves. At Gray’s, we’re committed to providing a platform where young creatives can grow, be inspired, and thrive.”
One opportunity available is to become a ‘Design Student for a Day’, a four-hour experience where young creatives can explore design practice, draw inspiration from the work of graduating students in the degree show, and begin developing a fledgling portfolio.
This programme has been designed in collaboration with five local, creative practitioners: Struan Hamilton, Ray Downie, Craig Barrowman, Nicole Paterson and Anne Marquiss.
As the programme coincides with the final weekend of the Gray’s School of Art Degree Show, S1-S4 participants will also be able to meet and talk with some of the University graduates involved.
It’s expected that over 150 artists from varying backgrounds and disciplines will be exhibiting at the show.
