Over sixty skiers from across Scotland travelled
to Aberdeen Snowsports Centre for the
Robert Gordon’s College School Ski Race Championships supported by Alpine Performance Racing.
With the aim of bringing the ski racing community together, and to
increase the competitive opportunities for young racers across Scotland,
organisers Varie MacLeod and Wendy Melville wanted to bring a dry
slope event to Aberdeen where school children could enter individually as many
schools cannot provide a team of four racers for Scottish school ski
competitions.
Under 8 to Under 18 ski racers competed in an individual slalom
as well as a dual slalom where teams were created to mix all the schools.
A prize giving ceremony took place at the end of the afternoon with many pupils
awarded medals and trophies.
Varie MacLeod, Deputy Head of Junior School, Robert Gordon's College said: “What a brilliant, fun and memorable day we all had! Well done to the ski racers and congratulations to the podium winners! The standard of dry slope racing was exceptionally high. The dual slalom event, with racers from different schools in each team, was very exciting and it was great to see team members work together, support each other and make new friends.”
Wendy Melville, Assistant Head of PE, Robert Gordon's College added: “The atmosphere was electric with friends and families cheering on all of the competitors! A special mention to Alpine Performance Racing for supporting both the Slalom and Dual Slalom competitions. We thank Craigdon Mountain Sports who kindly donated raffle prizes and discount vouchers for all of the racers and would also like to thank Aberdeen Snowsports Centre and all the volunteers!”
Fraser Buchan, Alpine Performance Racing, commented: “What a day it was! Robert Gordon's College asked us to help with their inaugural School Ski Championship and it did not disappoint. It was great to see the high standard of ski racing and the enthusiasm of the racers who all enjoyed a great event in the Aberdeen sunshine!”
Congratulations to all the racers who not only displayed impressive performances, but had a fantastic and memorable experience.
