ACVO TSI is pleased to share the latest edition of ACVO News, the free digital magazine highlighting the work, achievements and opportunities from across Aberdeen’s third sector.

ACVO News continues to provide a platform for local organisations to share their impact, alongside the latest funding opportunities, volunteering roles, events and vacancies. The publication also features insight from the ACVO team and wider sector, helping to keep organisations and communities informed and connected.

In the April edition, the cover feature highlights Rowan Peattie, a Volunteering Engagement Intern at the University of Aberdeen. Working across the Careers and Employability Service and Aberdeen University Students’ Association, Rowan is supporting efforts to improve how students access and engage with volunteering opportunities, helping to strengthen connections between students and the third sector.

Also featured this month are volunteers from Aberdeen Arts Centre as part of ACVO’s ‘Why I Volunteer in Aberdeen’ series. Ian and Fiona share their personal experiences of volunteering, reflecting on what motivates them to give their time and the important role volunteering plays in supporting both the venue and the wider community.

This edition also includes insight into Volunteer Scotland’s State of Volunteering in Scotland report, highlighting both the significant contribution volunteers make and the challenges facing the sector, including participation, accessibility and capacity.

In addition, ACVO shares the launch of its new Communications and Media Network, which brings together third sector staff and volunteers involved in communications and storytelling. The first session, held at Aberdeen Arts Centre, featured input from Craig Walker, Editor of the Press & Journal and Evening Express, and Ben Hendry, Aberdeen and Shire Lead, offering valuable insight into how local stories are shared and the continued importance of strong, people-focused storytelling.

Maggie Hepburn, Chief Executive of ACVO, said: “This edition highlights the importance of both understanding and sharing the work taking place across the sector. By combining insight with strong storytelling, we can better reflect the impact of volunteering and the many ways people contribute to communities across Aberdeen.”

Other third sector updates this month include:

  • Befriend a Child raises over £50,000 at its Boogie Boozy Brunch weekend, supporting children and young people across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
  • Sport Aberdeen’s MacKenzie Championship Course at Hazlehead wins Best Municipal Golf Course at the 2026 Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.
  • Aberdeen Citizens Advice Bureau celebrates the dedication of staff and volunteers at its annual awards ceremony,
  • Scarf congratulates long-standing board member Mike Scott on being awarded an MBE for his contribution to communities across Scotland.

Third sector organisations, charities and community groups are encouraged to contact ACVO to share their stories and news. Featuring your story is a great way to promote local projects, celebrate achievements and raise awareness of valuable work in Aberdeen’s communities.
