Leading North-east social care charity Inspire are delighted to announce that the organisation has taken over the management of the Manor project, which has been providing support to people with learning disabilities in its community since 1989.
The future of the service was left under question when the previous charitable organisation became unsustainable due to a breakdown in governance in early 2017.
Aberdeen City Council approached Inspire to assume the management of the service, requiring a quick and thoughtful response to ensure a smooth transition for staff and the people supported at the service. Following a period of due diligence Inspire took over management of the service on April 1, putting an end to uncertainty both for people supported at the service and staff.
Inspire PTL chief executive Linda Gray said: “We are delighted that the organisation has been able to secure this vital service’s future, continuing to care for the people supported and provide employment. This has succeeded due to the collaborative work between Inspire and both the outgoing board and the City Council.
"I would like to extend my thanks to Bert Lawrie, the outgoing Manor chair for his help, and also for the kind gift of the service’s car which will continue to enrich the lives of the people supported here. ”
Set up during a time of transition for people with learning disabilities from hospitals to community living, and to provide a new avenue for people living at home looking to progress to more independent living, the Manor project has provided successful support for almost thirty years. The Manor project is located in the Aberdeen community, supporting 9 people residentially and 3 through outreach. It also provides employment for 18 people.
