Aberdeen finance boss Martin Gilbert has described the North-east as a "generational economic opportunity" for investors ahead of a major summit in Edinburgh.

The co-founder of Aberdeen Asset Management and chairman of Revolut will promote business and energy opportunities at the Global Investment Summit today.

The event brings together business leaders, global investors, and government representatives to attract tens of millions of pounds in funding for Scotland.

Ahead of the summit, Mr Gilbert said: “The North-east has a long and proud heritage of entrepreneurship, innovation, engineering excellence, and economic leadership, built not only on the North Sea oil and gas industry but on a wide range of sectors that continue to drive growth and opportunity."

“Today, the region is at the heart of a generational economic opportunity,” he added.

More than 30 leading figures from the energy sector are among the high-profile list of attendees who have signed up for the summit.

The landmark event – which is the first of its kind to be staged in Scotland – is being organised by Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) and the City of London Corporation.

It will put Scottish business leaders in the same room with key investors from around the world, alongside UK and Scottish government ministers, officials and regulators.

The showcase in Edinburgh – set to feature addresses from First Minister John Swinney and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey – aims to drive substantial new investment in Scotland’s world-leading financial services, energy and life sciences sectors.

With the energy transition set to take centre stage at the talks, the guestlist includes Maggie McGinlay, chief executive of Aberdeen’s ETZ Ltd, Adam Morrison, UK country manager for Moray Firth offshore windfarm developer Ocean Winds, and Tim Stedman, chief executive of Storegga, driver of the Acorn carbon capture and storage project at St Fergus.

Bob Drummond, executive chairman of Hydrasun, is another key figure attending the summit, as is Sarah Moore, chief executive of Peterson Energy Logistics, Ian Taylor, Bowdun Offshore Wind project director at Thistle Wind Partners, and Steven Gray, managing partner at Ventex Studio.

From the Highlands, Calum MacPherson, chief executive of Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, is also expected at the summit, as is Martin Roughead, chief financial officer at Haventus, which is developing the Ardersier Energy Transition Facility.

Meanwhile, key ports in the north-east will be represented by the likes of Tom Hutchison, chief executive at Montrose Port Authority, and Graeme Reid, chief executive of Peterhead Port Authority.
