A leading north-east cancer charity is introducing new support groups to its calendar for those affected by a cancer diagnosis.

CLAN Cancer Support, which has a wellbeing and support centre in Banchory’s Posties Walk, will be holding an Arts and Crafts group on Friday, June 29 between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. The group is free to attend and open to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis.

The relaxed and informal group aims to give people the chance to develop a new skill or hobby whilst meeting people who may find themselves in a similar situation.

The charity will also hold monthly coffee mornings at the centre on the second Friday of each month, with the first meeting taking place on Friday, 13th July between 10.30am and midday.

July’s coffee morning will have the theme of strawberries and cream and August’s group will welcome guest speaker Suzy Brown from the Aberdeenshire Signposting Project.

Helen Hasnip, CLAN Cancer Support’s Deeside area coordinator, said: “I am delighted to introduce the coffee morning and arts and crafts group to the calendar of support and activities we offer in the Deeside area.

“I would encourage anyone interested in the arts and craft group to get in touch to reserve their space however people are free to drop into the coffee morning without need to book. Both groups are very informal so I really would encourage anyone to come along.

“Our wellbeing and support centre offers drop-in support, information and complementary therapies - by appointment - for anyone affected by cancer each Thursday between 10am and 4pm. The service we provide in Deeside has really developed over the past two years and we are looking forward to continuing this development throughout 2018.

“However, this service wouldn’t be possible without our team of volunteers. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering within CLAN in Banchory, please pop in to the centre or give us a call.”
